I am bust writing up a personal account of the curative properties of St John's wort. I would be very interested in hearing from others who have tried this treatment route. I am particularly interested in how it compares to prescription medication. I would also welcome mail from people who would rather take one of the prescription medications. Personally, I would rather stick with St John's...

I have never taken any prescription AD but for about a year I have taken St. Johns Wort. It has made me feel more even emotionally. I don't take little things personally like I used to and let them build up and then have a breakdown of sorts. It helped with my PMS. I went through a breakup 6 months ago and without the SJWort I don't think I could have survived as well as I have. As of the past 2 months I feel like it is helping me less and less. I feel like I did before I started taking it. My PMS this month was really bad and I sunk into a depressed state. I am thinking about going to a therapist to sort out some things in my head. I don't want to take a AD but we will see what happens. It didn't work for me, but neither did prozac, effexor, or zoloft. Now I'm trying paxil, still experiencing drowsiness after 3 months -- with any luck it will do something for me. I used to feel the same about AD's, now I'm more of a "whatever works" person. I've lost years of my life to depression, if something helps reduce the symptoms it doesn't matter if it's a herb or a chemical... It took me at 3 months maybe longer before I noticed the full effects of the ST. Johns Wort....it is very subtle but one day you will notice that you feel more even mentally and emotionally. Keep in mind SJW is mainly for very mild depression. My sister tried getting of her AD and trying SJW and lets just say it didn't help her in the least and she got worse from being off the AD.
