Question:
I am using 2 x 37,5 mg effexor a day for about two years now. My shrink has prescribed me now effexor xr 75 mg a day, Is there anyone outthere who has experience from switching from the "normal" effexor to the effexor xr. I scaread to switch because the drug might not work for me.

Answer:
The only difference is that the XR is slow release, as such it should have the same effect but with less side effects, then again you can never be 100% sure. If Effexor works for you, then don't be scared, because Effexor XR is just regular Effexor made into a more dense pill that takes longer to completely digest. I take 2 XR and 1 regular in the morning (my dosage has been 3 pills a day). The regular is for instant action, while the XR take effect later in the day, when I would normally take my other doses. i am on 2x37.5mg of effexor for 2 months now.i went from prozac(2and a half years)to paxil (2months)and now this.until today i thought i was doing better .i have very little if any appite(sp?)and mainly eat because i know i eed to.my appite has gotten much worse since i started taken the meds. i have told my dr.and my coun.but they dont think it is any thin to worry about.i am 5'3"130 lbs i look healthy but i am allways tired,and very seldom eat more than once a day i.e.candy, sandw itch manily i eat to keep those around me happy.some times i feel so weak and it really is a struggle to go to work everyday.does my meds .need to be increased or changed or what.
