anyone have any experience with anafranil as an antidepressant? I"m having a particularly difficult time starting it right now and would like to compare notes.

I felt like I was ill all the time..run down, hungry, sleepy, stuffy head (not sinuses, just felt like heavy head), dry mouth, and it didnt help me with the depression or the panic attacks. I had alot of stomach aches and headaches on this stuff and it seemed like the nightmares got worse..I gained alot of weight, and then went thru withdrawal BIGTIME when I got off it. Sorry I can not be more positive with this one, but I was on it for a LONG time (year) and it was not one of my better experiences..in fact, I felt more depressed when I got off of it.... Why did you take it for a whole year if it was so bad? I hope your not following your doctors orders if he's telling you to wait a whole year to see if it will work, some doctors will lie and do this when they know perfectly clear that the maximum time suggested is 12 weeks and this is the longest time I have ever seen stated. More conservative figures give anywhere from 4-8 weeks, and my opinion would be that if you see that your next few trials don't respond after 6 weeks then you should just stop later trials at 3 or 4 weeks if you've already tried a high dosage of the drug because the chances that it will work after this are low and there are other drugs or combinations out there to try. I took it for two or three months. It did nothing for my depression, and little by way of side-effects (I tended to fall over if I stood up too fast). It's a pretty standard tricylcic, I believe; the other TCA I tried did a similar amount of nothing for me.
