Question:
After many years of side effects from SSRIs for the treatment of mild depression and anxiety, i made the switch to St-John's Worth (Hypericum) and i have a pretty success. I guess Kava is a trademark, so i want to know what is the generic name of Kava.

Answer:
When we were learning about St. John's Wort in my herbology class, the one thing they warned us about with it, is that one side effect of long- term us could be hypersensitivity to light. That would be after three or four months of taking it every day. Try to be aware if you're taking it for more than four months to watch for any symptoms like your eyes not dealing well with sunlight, or more easily being sunburned. I've heard good things about kava - but the warning I've heard for that (as with St. John's wort) is don't take it if you're taking any kind of Western medication for depression/anxiety - like an antidepressant or sedative like valium or xanax. Often they don't react well together. I have been taking St. Johns Wort for about a year now and I have no hypersensitivity to sunlight as far as my skin goes but I have noticed floaters in my vision especially in bright lights. Could this be because of the SJW? I am slowely lowering my dosage to wean my self off and see if I can tell a difference.
