Question:
Have you tried: a) MAOI antidepressants, b) cognitive therapy? I wasted many years trying everything else but these two; only in the last two years can I say that I have truly defeated a lifetime of depression.

Answer:
At this point in my life I would have to say I will NEVER conquer recurring depression and panic attacks..I have been on everything you can imagine..I have tried a total of 83 different drugs for both within a 15 yr period..everything from mao inhibitors to seratonin reuptake inhibitors...with only positive results from Effexor that lasted 6 mos and then would not work anymore. The Tranqs do not help with panic attacks, only cause alot of drowsiness, and crankiness.. I have stopped going to the Dr after 16 yrs now...tried taking st johns wort..did not work for me. (Yes, I have been thru counseling, assertiveness training, group therapy, in pt. tx., out pt. tx, etc etc..been thru it all) Dr has told me that I was one of the few unfortunate ones (about 4%) that AD dont seem to affect at all..(I have been to over 10 Dr. and 4 hospitals) I am trying to live with it..but most of the time I just dont leave the house. I did the panic attacks, and feel that depression is gone as long as I'm medicated, but I might try Chinese Medicine again sometime. Not while I'm raising babies though.
