Weight - DOXEPIN=HAIR LOSS* WEIGHT GAIN

Question:
I have been taking Doxepin for two weeks now since Prozac did not really work for me. I have taken Prozac for 2 months. Havind used Prozac, I did not really notice hair loss, but since Doxepin I loss hair like an old man. I going fast. Has anybody notice the same thing? Second side effect is weight gain, I almost gained 8 pounds in 2 weeks. That is quite a lot for me, because I have always been skinny and did not really have appetite. But now, Doxepin makes me feel pretty hungry. How has noticed these side effects?

Answer:
Sineqan can cause weight loss or gain. Under miscellaneous side effects in the PDR is listed alopecia which I believe is hair loss but I don't have a medical dictionary handy..... With antidepressants you can assume any side effect and they will do it in a certain perscent of patients. You have to be careful with any PDR statement that a particular agent causes hair loss. This occurs naturally so often that consumption of a particular agent is often associated completely coincidentally with loss. Then this gets stuck into the book as a possible side-effect. One problem is that telogen loss is typically 2-4 months after the event that causes an agent to go into the loss phase. Any loss before this represents hair that was already in the loss phase and was about to fall out anyway. Possibly. When I was on a high dose a number of people commented on the fact that I seemed to be experiencing some regrowth. I also put on weight. Now that I am no longer taking Prozac regularly i am experiencing hair loss again, though I have kept the extra pounds, Both thinning hair and an inability to build body weight have been associated with stress, so it would be consistent with what we know about the way Prozac works if it was to alleviate these conditions.
