Question: Having suffered all my life from bipolar depression, I finally sought help, and was prescribed Zoloft. The side effects were very marked and almost unbearable. Someone told me that Saint Johns Wort would counter those effects. I started taking it and it really works.
Answer: I gauge my mood on a scale of 1-10, 5 being blah and below 5 being agitated, nervous and all those other feelings you all know about. It seems if I take 6 300 mg capsules morning and night ( 3600 mg/day) my mood hovers around 6 If I drop back to 5 capsules, my mood drops back to 5. There is about a 2 day lag. watch that!!! you're not near the danger line, but you could get there fast - i think toxic levels go at around 20 capsules (300mg) per day. consult your psychiatrist. I am monitoring it pretty carefully. I don't anticipate going much farther. I seem to feel pretty good at 12/diem. I can detect a difference between 10 & 12, I will try and see if there is a noticable difference between 12 & 14.
