Question: Can anyone out there tell me of there experiences with the long term use of Remeron?
Answer: My 'primary' diagnoses is Social Phobia (anxiety disorder), but I have secondary mild depression. I was diagnosed 5 years ago and have been on 1 or another anti-depressant ever since - tried them all in the US except the tricyclics and Paxil. About 9 months ago, I added Klonopin regulary (an anti-anxiety benzodiazepine) to an anti-depressant - which has improved my overall treatment significantly. My favorite anti-depressants: Nardil, Parnate, Prozac, Zoloft. Remeron seemed good, but only for 6 weeks like I mentioned. All four were effective anti-depressants. For me, Parnate seemed to have the least sexual side effects (none except at the highest dosages). Nardil and Zoloft had awful sexual side effects. Prozac had mild, not too bad sexual side effects. Zoloft had a lot of sedation for me compared to Prozac. Nardil and Parnate have food restrictions - so for those without Social Phobia, they are more 'last resort' type meds usually - but very effective.
