Question: I have tried so many different meds and for a while now I have been on 225mg of Effexor and 1mg of Klonopin. I haven't had any MAJOR crashes, but I still have minor troubles. I have a hard time getting out of bed, going to class, and going to sleep. Plus, a lot of the time I lack motivation to do simple tasks like the dishes.
Answer: 1mg of Klonopin is not very much. And I am led to believe it is a much more effective benzodiazepine when used for treating depression/connected-issues than the Val's/X's/etc. as it's longer acting, and I know in my case, tends not to make me depressed like the others. So have used it for sleep mostly. Also, it's somewhat more "legitimate", should you ever end up like many of us who have had to switch doctors and found out they wouldn't allow a BZ. Not trying to frighten you, merely trying to say that if you think more Klonopin would help you sleep, it's possible your doctor would allow your much more than you're currently taking, if it became necessary. If it's hard to get up in the morning, that may make it harder, but I'm just throwing out suggestions. Effexor didn't work for me - I felt the stuff trying to work, but was not motivated and felt no relief from the depressionr. I've tried nearly everything so currently back on the only thing that does work: an MAO Inhibitor, Parnate. Wish it worked as well as the Nardil, but that's another topic. I'm afraid I wasn't much help, but SO much of my time has been spent over the years going back and forth with these meds that I sometimes feel compelled to share whatever might benefit someome. I was taking klonopin for gen. anxiety disorder for years...found it wasn't cutting the anxiety...so I was augmenting it with booze....Eventually, I crashed into a month long depression...started on Paxil, but had terrible side effects. I was switched to Effexor XR and still on the Klonopin. Still not doing great, and then the shrink explained that klonopin can sometimes make depression even darker....switched to Xanax., which I took years ago with great results...also, I cut the Effexor dose down from 150mg day to 75 mg per day....the results are very good...slight blurriness of vision, weak appetite, but hey, I'm up and running again. Suggest , you try to switch to Xanax in stead of Klonopin...also, consider cutting back on your Effexor, a little of this stuff goes a long way...sounds like you are on a pretty hefty dosage of this stuff. Also, you didn't say, are you on the Effexor XR,,,if not, try to get switched to it.. it is time released, so it releases a little at a time all day long to minimize side effects.
