I'm relatively new to this website but not new to depression, manic-depression and meds. I have been on various medications since I was 17. Elavil, tofranil, xanax, pamelor, nardil, desyrl, anafranil, lithium to name a few. Almost all of them with the exception of tofranil worked sooner or later to some degree.

I am also new to the group but have been lurking for few days. I have been on Zoloft 100 mg for a year. It worked right away (within 3 days) and has been a godssend. The dramatic side effects (insomnia, nausea, agitation etc.) went away after about a month. I have also noticed effects on my menstruation cycles but did not connect to Zoloft until reading this post. They were very stable and long (6-7 weeks) prior to starting the drug. Then they became regular at 4 weeks after starting the drug. after 3- 4 months, I began bleeding in between (every 2 weeks) and finally I was bleeding all the time. I had a D&C which seems to have helped but that was only in July so a couple more months should tell the tale. I don't know if quitting Zoloft cold turkey is a good idea. I find that even if I am late with one dose, I notice agitation and depression returning. I have also gained about 20 pounds on Zoloft and I noticed in another thread that a report of craving alcohol was reported. This is probably connected. Please see your "regular" doctor. Your description does not sound typical of Zoloft or any other antidepressant, either TCA or SSRI. As for weight, darn few patients actually lose weight with antidepressants of any kind, in my experience. Most complain of the opposite. Talk to your regular doctor first.
