does anyone out there have any experience with the use of Thyroid supplements? I've been fighting Panic and depression for over 20 years. I've been through the regular gambit of drugs. I've had blood screens done and all that. My Thyroid has always been in normal zones. Now my Psychiatrist has put me on Cytomel, a Thyroid supplement. Has anyone heard of this being used in a case of normal thyroid levels?

My thyroid is normal also and my pdoc put me on levothyroxine. From what I understand, sometimes a thyroid med can help to boost the effectiveness of another anti-depressant you are taking. I think sometimes thyroid is used to boost psych meds. However it could ameliorate the depression on its own, if what you have is a hidden thyroid problem. Cytomel, rather than levothyroxine, is usually used to boost an antidepressant. It can make you a little hyper, which is good if you feel lethargic.
