I am on prozac (40 mg) and desipramine (150 mg). I don't think I'm depressed, but I am very sleepy during the day. I am thinking of switching from these medications to wellbrutrin. I hear that wellbutrin does not cause sleepiness. Anyone know if this will be a good change for me?
Answer:
I was on prozac for quite some time they kept increasing the dose.. but it did not seem to cover... then I went to welbutrin and prozac together worked well for me for a long time.... as for the sleepiness... it gets better with time.... prozac did it to me... so the doctor had me taking the meds at night before bed.. this helped to abate some of the daytime sleepiness.. but not all... From the meds I have taken and the folks I have talked to this is a common problem on all of them... but heck it beats deppression hands down! I've tried paxil and serzone recently--both made me sleepy and feel like a zombie. Switched to Wellbutrin SR and now have lots of energy and wide awake--no problems sleeping though (took a little xanax a night for a few days to start). Have adjusted my dosage from 1/2 of a 150 mg tablet once daily to 150 mg once daily. Now taking 150 mg in am and 1/2 pill in late afternoon. It's definitely helped with what I now realize as ADD symptoms. I do experience a little bit of memory interruption, however the benefit of not having my thoughts wander so much outweighs the side effects. By not having wandering thoughts, I tend not to think of things that used to depress me as much--guess the Wellbutrin is working. P.S. I'm not hungry too! This is the BEST side effect! :-) REMEMBER--EVERYONE will react differently to medication--hope you find one that works for you! Experiment with dosage if you feel it's safe--I could never undestand why the dosage would be the same for a 300LB Football player as it would for 145LB me.
