My doc put me on 75mg EffexorXR a day, plus Buspar 5mg 2x a day (once in morning..once at bedtime.) Now, I was on klonipin before Buspar, but still found the Effexor caused aggitation and insomnia. Now, with the Buspar, I don't feel the LEAST bit agitated, and my sleeping patterns are great!
Answer:
I have been on Effexor XR 37.5mg for 4 days now and have only been able to sleep about 3-4 hours a night and my anxiety has increased a great deal, even to the point of thinking about suicide because I'm so scared and discouraged. I think, it has come to a choice between high anxiety ( from taking AD meds ) or high depression ( from not taking AD meds). I will ask my doctor about Buspar. Are these side effects of insomnia and anxiety likely to go away or decrease with time without taking Buspar? Well, I just started on Effexor XR 37.5mg a day, and can understand what you are saying about the aggitation and anxiety/sleeplessness. I have used Buspar with Effexor in the past, but it still didn't quite seem to do the trick for me. So, I am now on Klonipin (1mg) 3x a day, plus the EffexorXR 1x a day, and the aggitation or anxiety don't seem to be a problem. I might suggest you talk to your doc ASAP about either 1)Buspar, or 2)adding a good dose of a benzo like klonipin, or Xanax. IF your doctor won't address your added anxiety, goto another one. Thats what I had to do. WHATEVER you do..don't give up hope...there are many good combinations of medications that are safe and effective out there. See what your doc says, and keep us posted! p.s. this is not really advisable, but if I ever had a really tough night of not being able to sleep at all, taking an OCCASIONAL Gravol(and yes..JUST once in a while to reset your sleeping pattern) worked for me. I found Gravol left less of that "hangover" type feeling that most OTC sleeping meds do.
