My Psychiatrist prescribed Wellbutrin for my double depression. I was to start with 150 mg a day for a week, then twice a day after that.
Answer:
I was reading up on this drug and saw that the odds of having seizures are 1/4000 under 450 mg. Over 450 mg, these odds increase to 1/400. Another thing I've read is that Cimetidine(Tagament) interferes with the metabolism of this drug. Causing it to be in your system longer(does this mean that some days I will have levels of Wellbutrin equal to 450+!?!). Also, drinking, smoking, and caffeine increase the severity of the seizures if you do have them. I take 800mg of Cimetidine a day for heartburn and a possible ulcer. It has helped me alot, and I'm not wanting to discontinue. My pharmacist says that because of another medication(Hyoscamine) that I take(side effect=drowsiness), it should help reduce my risk of having seizures. I also take Valerian Root(herbal remedy) for Insomnia. I'm just wondering if anyone else is taking this combo(I have NOT started the Wellbutrin, too leary of it) and if so, what kind of results have they gotten? I take Wellbutrin & prilosic( a stomach medicine). I've only been on the Wellbutrin about 5 weeks. It didn't bother me as much as Paxil, doxipin, was very sleepy, prozac, was nervous, than tired, serazone, had a allergic reaction, but that probably would have worked. I'm a little discouraged because my ears are ringing real loud, I've been using Debrox drops just in case it'll clear them. But I also feel a little tense & uneasy, it may be too early. I don't know any one else that's on this drug. If you don't have seizure problems head trauma, liver, or buleminia problems, you should be OK from what I've researched. I also take lorezepam to help sleep better& when still anxious at times.
