i've been on prozac for over a year and have gained 50 pounds (after doctor said it could do that ha) Now I've been given Celexa and I'm not sure what to do. I've been told a)can just stop prozac and start celexa b)ween off prozac wait 2 weeks then start celexa. I also have Anxiety Disorder. Do I really want to even try taking Celexa.?

Citalopram (generic name for Celexa or Cipramil) is supposed to be quite an effective SSRI, moreso than fluoxetine if I understand correctly, and is reputedly quite useful in tackling anxiety and panic attacks (although the converse has been noted by some contributors here) and insomnia. I've been on it for just over a week, so it's too early to say how much of an effect it's had, especially as I'm also on some benzos during the "breaking in" period. I think you have to be quite careful about starting any sort of other AD after being on fluoxetine because it has such a ridiculously long half- life, the risks being "serotonin syndrome" (ie hypermania etc) but you'd be far better checking out the potential risks with your doc rather than listening to the meanderings of someone like me whose understanding is rather basic.
