Because of weight gain and hair loss, last Saturday I cut my dosage of Zoloft from 75 mg to 50 mg, and this Saturday (tomorrow), I plan to drop that to 25 mg. I next see my prescribing doctor on Thursday the 19th. At that time, I will insist that she switch me to something else -- preferably a non-SSRI such as Serzone or Wellbutrin.

She is authoritarian and ill-informed. I had a big chat with my THERAPIST about that this week (the problem doctor is one I meet with for 30 minutes every fortnight just for drugs) and she advised me to put my foot down in my dealings with the prescribing doc, who has not been taking my concerns seriously. The drug doc actually had the gall to tell me, "you're thin; you can afford to gain a few pounds." Well, none of my clothes fit anymore, except for elastic-waist skirts! And, at size 8, I was hardly emaciated and I am certainly not anorexic. Why continue with a drug that is causing side effects that are exacerbating the very condition it was prescribed to treat. i.e., the hair loss and weight gain are DEPRESSING. I wish. It seems she won't even DISCUSS other treatment options with me. She is quite sold on Zoloft. Indeed. Her office is full of Zoloft trinkets and paraphernalia. Again, why 20 pounds? My normal weight was quite appropriate to my stature; I may have been at the low end of the chart, but I am very small-boned. Now, I am at the high end of the chart, and none of my clothes fit. I'm in my 30s, and have been this size and weight for many years. I can't see going out and buying an entirely new wardrobe just because of Zoloft, when there might be other options that don't have this effect. Plus, based on the things I've read here, people have gained up to 120 pouinds on this drug!
