Question:
Has anyone tried Ritalin either alone or in combination with something else for the treatment of depression? I realize there is an abuse potential with this drug, but I'm not out to get high and am considering approaching my doctor about trying it at the lowest dosage.

Answer:
When I was in college, I ate some Ritalin ( I know it's not kosher, but gimme a break, I was in college, OK? ) And it got me higher than a kite. The next day, I crashed so bad, that was the end of my experience with Ritalin. I know it does get prescribed for depression sometimes, but I get the idea that it's not terribly common, for that reason. Three weeks probably isn't long enough. I'd give it another 7 - 10 days. Then call your doc, and tell him what's up. He may increase your dosage, or move you on to yet still another drug. Wellbutrin is used as a booster for SSRI's a lot, with some success. My doc at first thought that I might have Adult ADD so he put me on Ritalin for 3 weeks. I didn't get hyped up like tadish did. In fact the only things I felt were the side effects (headaches, visual disturbances, eye strain) I've since been switched to Effexor XR and that began to have some positive impact although the sexual side effects caused us to switch to Wellbutrin which I'm starting tonight.
