Question:
Today it was so bad I put Ben Gay on my cheeks! While that seemed to help I had to wash it off after about 1/2 an hour because the fumes were making me cry.

Answer:
Very good description of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD or TMD). I'm surprised this is the first time you've noticed it. I had it for years before it was diagnosed - I always thought the one-sided headaches were "sinus headaches." I finally went to an ENT who diagnosed it. TMJD is an interdisciplinary disorder that some insurance plans explicitly exempt. Check your coverage. You should approach it through each of the disciplines to deal with it. Psychiatric: stress and anxiety will increase the likelihood that you'll clench your jaw muscles during the day and grind your teeth during the night. (bruxism) That's a very important thing to look at. Effexor is one way to deal with your stress and anxiety that seems to work for you, apparently. Why not just stay on it? You should also try meditation, progressive relaxation... This is the first time I have experienced anything like this. I am fairly certain it has to do with going off of effexor. Yeah, I looked at that web site you referred to, stress does seem to be th culprit.
