Question:
Does anyone else take Dothiepin for depression? This is a British drug. I think most of you are in the US.? I'm not sure what our equivalent of Paxil is.

Answer:
Dothiepin is a tricyclic called Prothieden, I think. I took it about 9 years ago for around 18 months. To be honest with you it didn't seem to do anything for me whatsoever though I suppose I'll never know if it saved me from getting worse. But let's put it this way, I didn't feel any better on it. However, some years, and another relapse, later my GP tried me on an SSRI (Lustral in the UK/Zoloft in the US) and it was like night and day. It was wonderful and I immediately noticed a huge difference (which kind of makes me think now that I was right about Prothiedin not working for me). However, we're all different and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else. Yes, I've taken Dothiepin for the last two years and have had good results with it and no serious side-effects. Seroxat is the UK equivalent of Paxil. I had a client on Dothiepin when I worked in an old peoples home. Its good for agitated depression as it has a sedative effect but I don't know of anyone else who has been prescribed it recently most seem to be on SSRIs
