Now into day 7 of Nardil.....75mg up to now....NO side effects and positive effects (so far) on my mood. I am confused...I thought nardil was worse for side effects?

Nardil was effective for me, took quite a few weeks to kick in though. I discovered that you can't sneak up on the optimal dosage, you have to over-shoot and gradually come back down. So if 45 mg/day was best, I'd need to get up to 75 mg/day and then decrease down to 45 over the course of a couple weeks. I found the side effects minimal except for the anorgasmia which is why I switched to Parnate. I think the incidence of side effects is higher for Parnate; I agree with the irritability and "knowing when you've taken it." Also, the "cheese reaction" is much more prominent. I have to be a lot more careful w/ foods on the Parnate than I ever was on Nardil. I'm on Parnate 3 weeks now --30 mg. Feel light and VERY tired in the afternoon, though amped at the same time. Dry mouth, real heavy. I wonder if many others have had the same experiences. Did your side-effects abait at any time? I started out on the MAOI Marplan (no longer available in the US, only in UK). It had the most amazing effect on me in just 48 hours - in that time, my severe agoraphobia disappeared about 80%, and I was so happily manic that I didn't sleep for days (but didn't care). Before taking Marplan, I had tried about every tricyclic on the map. This was in 1989 before Prozac and the SSRIs hit the AD market. I've now been on Nardil for several years; it's almost as good as Marplan as far as mood-altering qualities go, but has made me gain LOTs of weight. I'm seriously thinking of ordering Marplan from the UK (doc has agreed to this).
