I get a pronounced "flushing" of the skin around my neck and my ears after about 8 hours after I have taken my first dose of Welbutrin SR (I take two, 8-10 hours apart).
Answer:
Had the same reaction to Prozac. The first time I went to the emergency room -- I thought I had chicken pox. Zoloft did it too as did (to a lesser extent) Effexor. The doctor said it was a "distressing" side effect but not dangerous. Left it up to me to decide whether I was tolerable. Had any of those drugs worked, it would have been a hard choice. I get that kind of rash with Ritalin. It strikes on the insise of my thighs and inside of elbows. What's disturbing is that it will continue for weeks after I stop taking the drug. Have been to several derms, and they all said they'd never seen anything like it. One told me flushing can sometimes be permanent. Becuase the drug works for me, I have gone off and on it, and because the rash has not gone away when I'm been off as long as a month, I have not been motivated enough to quit the drug completely. But I would like to hear of other experiences--am seeing one more very prominent academic derm this month and hope he will be helpful. I had a rash that developed and was diagnosed by a derm to be an allergy to beef. Whenever I ate beef I would break out with the rash and itching. So no beef for me for years. My therapist suggested the I might eat organic beef, I tried it and did not break out. I went to a new MD who said that my symptoms didn't make sense because the rash remained so long after I would quit beef. The MD treated my rash with an anti fungal cream which I didn't believe would work because I was convinced that it was an allergy. It did work after all and I have not been bothered by the rash and can eat all kinds of regular beef that I couldn't eat before. The rash turned out to be caused by a fungus that required the "hormones" in regular (not organic) beef for growth. I wonder if that could be the case for you. A fungus that thrives on a diet of Ritalin.
