I have been on Effexor 37.5 x2 since last August. I have also been sleeping pills. My Dr. wants me to reduce the sleeping pills to 3 or less times per week since I can become dependant on them. My difficulty is a short and restless sleep. With the sleeping pill I sleep slightly longer but more sound. Maybe 6-7 or if I am lucky 8 hours with the pill.
Answer:
I'm on Effexor Xr 150 mg's a day and my doctor has given me Restoril to help me sleep. The problem I have with taking the Restoril is getting up in the morning and staying awake during the day, so I started taking Melatolinal (spelling?) it helps me get to sleep and I wake up okay in the morning. Do you take the Effexor at night? You might consider asking about Effexor XR--and taking all 75 MG before bed. One of the side-effects of Effexor is often drowsiness. As for natural aids....try chamomille tea or warm milk. (Science has proven that when milk is warmed the proteins are changed and release an agent that helps you to relax.) The addition of a little trazodone at bed time can be effective to aid sleep. It is not addictive (unlike most sleep aids) and, being an antidepressant itself, may additionally enhance the antidepressant effect of the Effexor, to boot. Ask your doctor about it.
