I´m now being treated with Anafranil, it´s my fisrt week in it. I have taken some SSRI whitout success (prozac, paxil, effexor, celexa (I´m European)). Please I´m interested in experiencies with Anafranil. Is it a good antidepressant for you?

I see that a lot of people are treated with anafranil for ocd, but not so many for depression; here is a summary of my experience with it, I hope it will help some people: I got a severe depression around 2.5 years ago; after a few months I had to consult my family doctor to be able to function again; at first he prescribed me Serlain (Sertraline), an SSRI antidepressant, that I think is what is called Zoloft in the USA and in most of the messages in this website; In addition I was prescribed a bennzodiadepine sedative, which I think is common practice; the Serlain was promising at first - I can still remember now the effect, it was almost like breathing again; if anything, it made me maybe a little _too_ euphoric, like being drunk and not caring anymore about anything; unfortunately, it began to lose its effect after a few weeks; so, my doctor switched me to the following medication: 2 * 25 mg anafranil, one in the morning and one at 12h00 50 mg trazolan (which I think is what is called trazodone in other countries) before going to sleep; (I had trouble sleeping which was the reason for the trazolan) I have been on this treatment during 2 years; we first discontinued the trazolan when I could sleep without help, then discontinued the 2nd anafranil, leaving me with only 25 mg of Anafranil that I am still taking now, mostly as 'maintenance' dose
