Has anyone, anywhere on this blue-green sphere of ours found information: real, scientific, objective, honest information about what might be the long-term effects of SSRI's?

I sometimes think about that, but remember that you have to weigh the costs of long-term antidepressant use against the costs of long-term severe depression. You say your normal state is "crushing depression", and that pretty well sums up mine, too. My life, my relationships and my career have all been devastated by my depression. Without antidepressants, my life is misery, and at times it seems quite unbearable. So I am willing to accept the risk, and I am grateful that there is something that will allow me to escape the pain, guilt, fear, and incapacitation. If I was forced to choose, I would choose a shorter, happier life over a life of unbearable misery that lasted a few years longer. I agree 100% and would agree even more if that were possible. I suffered through over a year where I did nothing more than exist - I ate and slept and took a shower about once a week. That's how bad depressioon can crush you. If it were not for meds, I think I might have stopped bothering to eat, too. Be afraid of the life you might miss altogether if you don;t try taking medication for your depression. I echo the desire for info re: long term effects. Until then, we all must weigh the positive or negative known effects of the medication vs the unknown. For me, it's clear. Even if I find out that Prozac has shortened my life span, it has made the past 2-1/2 years better than I ever dreamed life could be! I don't know what I would decide if the choice were not so dramatic.
