Question:
I've been on Paxil for 2 1/2 weeks now, started at 10 mg., then 20 mg the second week. It apears to be helping with my depression and anxiety. My dr. suggested to take it between 4-6 pm, and I take it with dinner. The problem is when I lay down to go to sleep, 4-5 hours later, I get a burning sensation in my stomach which is enough to keep me awake for a couple hours. I eat some yogurt, and that helps a little, but I end up taking a sleeping med which I don't think I'd need if not for my stomach bothering me!

Answer:
I've had the discomfort, too. I wouldn't call mine a 'burning' sensation, though. It's just major discomfort (I don't want to say major pain because I can tolerate it) for me. I find it's worse when Im lying down or sitting. My discomfort also came in the afternoons and I take my pill in the morning (I take 10mg/day). All I can say is that you're not alone in your stomach discomfort and that I haven't found a remedy for it (as an aside, tho..in the early months of just taking Paxil (been on it for a year and a half), it made me move my bowels quite a bit (sorry of that's too much information)). It did go away for me after some time (not sure when it stopped) and it comes back once in a while but not as bad as when I was starting out on the drug. Mine switched me to mornings stating that a side effect was sleeplessness. I slept OK except for some minor sweating at first. Important: Dont stop Paxil suddenly. It requires a very slow withdrawal. Some medics dont seem to know this, even though it's in the literature....
