Question:
I am interested in experiences of people that have been tried with SSRI without success and with Triciclycs with success. In my experince the SSRI have not been successful and I now am being tried with a triciclyc, anafranil. I would like to know if triciclyc has been successful for you and What do you use. I am interested in opinions on that antidepressants considers is better SSRI or triciclys. In my experience the SSRI have been useless and I wait for in the success of the triciclys.

Answer:
I for one haver been helped by a tricyclic, desipramine. And I tried prozac first with no help. There are some side-efects, like constipation. But you can overcome them. I suffer from depression and OCD. I have taken too many different anti-depressants to count. Here is my opinion of SSRI vs Tricylics. I used to take the tricyclic Pamalor (I think it's generic name is Nortriptyline?). It was the greatest thing since sliced bread for me. I slept well, I started eating better and feeling better- just like someone had flipped on a light switch inside of me. Unfortunately, the side-effects (major constipation not relieved with stool softeners, etc.) was just too much to deal with. I developed a major case of hemmys and had to go off of it. I now take the SSRI Paxil, which is almost as effective. (Still slightly constipating, but manageable with stool softeners.) So I have found both types to be effective- with the SSRI's having more tolerable side effects. However, everyone is different and I have found that it is a matter of trial and error for most people to find something that works. I was on a tricyclic called Prothiedin which did absolutely nothing for me. However, Zoloft has made me a new person. Weird. I guess it just depends
