My psy has now prescribed Prozac, what are your experiences with it. I know it's very widely used in the US, much less here in the Netherlands. I liked the notice mentioning weight loss in overweight patients, I can use that after the Paxil. But it also mentions "weird dreams and ideas",

I was on Paxil with the only side effect being weight gain - major - about 40 pounds of 7 months. Sometime prior to that I was on Prozac (the SSRI's only work about 6 months for me). There were few side effects for me personally. I did not lose weight on it, but I did not gain weight like all the other SSRI's, so that was a definite plus. Also, a number of people that I know that have been on it, but not myself, had the experience of a numbing of emotions to the point where they couldn't even cry, even if they wanted to, they couldn't get that release. I had those symptoms while on Zoloft. Prozac cut off my appetite completely, lost 100 lbs on it. Made mr _not_ want to eat, and I didn't really care. IMHO, it's been the best AD I've ever been on, it just seemed to fizzle out after a few years. I also had the "shakes" real bad at first on it, but it went away. prozac gave me a feeling of being boxed in at first.. since has gone away... it also seemed to take away inhibitions for a while thre... that to seems to have gone away....made my vision blurry... thats about it... Nancy though I heard it can make your hair fall out.... You wrote about Prozac causing weird ideas. I too had heard that, but after the failure of trycyclic antidepressants for 2 years of agony, I took Prozac in 1990. My life returned to normal, with only a few side effects:slightly increased nervousness, fatigue and impotence, all for only 10 to 14 days. I noticed feeling better in 3 weeks and stayed on it for two years, resuming a normal professional life. No more side effects ever. The first time I went from 165 pounds to 145 pounds and stable.I was a little afraid getting off it, but it went without a hitch. I went back on it for six months a few years later, with the same routine, but with no weight change.
