I have 2 questions about XANAX.. if anyone can help. 1. What are the immidiate side efefcts of xanax, and do they pass quickly? will i feel "starnge" or not be able to be "normal" .. in the first day or two? i was on BUSPAR and the first days are HELL... it makes you edgy and jumpy and you cant do your normal activites.. 2. did anyone took XANAX (i dont take anything at the moment) xanax alone.. for a whiel and managed to STOP it completely?.. and be on NONE medications now?
Answer:
Xanax is nothing like Buspar in the way you are naturaly worried about; it makes you more relaxed, if anything, immediately, with no initial period of increased nervousness. It may well make you sleepy and forgetful, but both of those side effects, especially the first, should pass in a week or two, at least diminish. I use Xanax, or drugs much like it from time to time, and I assume I will for the rest of my life, whenever I'm in a clinical depression. The vast majority of the time, I do not use it or want it because of residual sedation and some loss of mental ability I can ill afford. Going off it has never been a problem as long as I do it very, very slowly. Some people do abuse it, as some abuse alcohol, but I can't imagine why. Responding to two posts just above. Xanax is a benzo like valium. There are many individual differences in our reactions to drugs, but there are some people who take xanax, or some other benzo, in a normal dosage for not all that long, and then stop abruptly and go into a horrible withdrawal. Most users will have some withdrawal unless they stop it very, very gradually. when i first took xanax i experienced incomplete thoughts, and i stuttered for about a half hour. but it took away my panic... i felt very well...it had this sort of "dreamy" effect on me. i wouldn't pop any and then go out driving or anything. so, i was taking xanax as needed (which was 2 or 3 times a day) for about 3 weeks, and now i don't take xanax at all. or any other medications. i had no withdrawal symptoms. a lot of people, like my father, can become addicted (or as some people like to refer as becoming "dependent" on) to it. i suppose it's a thinking process though: "if i don't take my xanax i'm going to die"
