I have been taking Effexor XR 300 mg for several months and have had some *unusual*, to say the least side effects. I've had other medications in addition, right now i'm on Risperdal 1mg. The Effexor has made my whole emotiveness seem very blunted. I am no longer severely depressed but am not normal, i simply am. Has anyone had much expirience with this medicine at this high a dose? Plus, i am only 14.

Although I recently started taking Effexor (therefore still not the maximum dose) I also experience having blunted feelings and do not feel quite normal. No weird expriences so far, although I find it quite difficult to identify what is caused by the medication and what is caused by the depression itself. What seems to help a lot these days are my 1/2hour meditations on the breath and to be with people with who I share a specific interest (actually the only thing that excites me these days is alternative medicine). Do you use other techniques or forms of support besides the medication? What I find helps me a lot is to talk people who have been through the same thing who tell me "you do get out of if" (although they never say how long it takes because it varies so much from one individual to another). All I can say to you is that I wish you all the strength and energy possible to keep your hopes up. I'm taking Effexor XR in two 75 mg. tablets once a day. I assume the XR means it's timed released. Should I be taking the 2 tablets at the same time or split up into 2 doses during the day. Correct. Someone else had suggested that Buzz--who takes Effexor XR (2 75mg caplets) should split his dosage. Having been on XR--and currnetly on the regular version because the XR in a single dose was too much for me--I wanted to be sure he was on XR--and if so I think he should take it once a day. And, it is possible the prescribing physician would change it--but the XR is meant to be taken once a day....in fact the manufacturer almost makes it seem like this is the best thing since white bread! I guess for some folks having to take meds more than once a day is difficult--does not bother me.
