Ive been having some real problems coming off Prozac. I was taking a full dosage of 20mg per day, and then for one week I took 10mg (half tablets). Ive been off it all together for two days now, the first day was fine but the second day has been filled with slight aggression and obessive thoughts firing up again, with great depression. I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this, and if they have for how long did it last. Ive been thinking about going onto Zoloft again, this was good for the depression but didnt really hamper the OCD. At least I can deal with the OCD, I cant deal with the symptoms that the Prozac was giving me; physical aggressive feeling, mania, loss of balace (when riding motorcycle), violent dreams and so on..
Answer:
It is not unusual to feel the things you are when coming off of medications. My suggestion would be to talk to your doctor. You may want to try and wean off of them a little slower. Two weeks are not enough. My suggestion is to stay at 10mg, until you feel stable with it. Then go to 10mg. every other day, and so on... my advice to you is to keep taking the Prozac!!!!!!! I know I have pissed a lot of people off in alt.support.depression.flame but I am not trying to mock you or anything mean. I have personal experiance coming off Prozac, so I know what I am talking about. If there is a biochemical reason for your depression then I am afraid you might have to take Prozac for the rest of you life. But, if you need it then you should take it!!! I'd like to endorse d's suggestion. Although Prozac usually doesn't cause bad withdrawal problems like Paxil or Zoloft or, for that matter, Xanax, it's always wise to do a slow taper. I agree with Phil. I take Zoloft and I'm happy to keep doing so. Swallowing a pill each day is no big deal and if it helps you stay well then keep taking it. That's the way I see it anyway. I'm coming off zoloft after about a year on 150 mg per day. I took it in the morning, it worked fine for me. Now, that I'm off it I get these strange 'swoosh' sensations usually when I get angered at something or someone. I told a cop off the other day, and that is soo unlike me. Anybody else experience this?? Not uncommon. My docotr told me that it showed I should keeop taking my meds, as I wasn't ready to go off them yet. I take paroxetine, but the symptoms you describe are very familiar. It sounded like you were getting a good start but I think that it will be a lond drawn out thing. I take 80 mgs. every morning and was wondering how in the world I would ever get down off at least some of them. I too have physical aggression violence, and I constantly lose my balance and walk a little goofy for a while. If you get any good help advive please pass it on for the rest of us with the same problem.
