The craving is just for sugar, not food in general, but sugar specifically. I've started putting it in my coffee, which I have never done before in my life. I want candy bars and cookies all day. I have even been eating teaspoons of plain sugar to satisfy the cravings when I'm at work.

I'm on 45 mg of Remeron daily, a woman, 5'6" tall and weight 251. Before starting AD's I was 130lb. I've noticed that about an hour after I have taken the Remeron, I start craving sugar and the feeling is almost overwhelming. I've been on the low glycemic diet (Protein Power) for 6 days and have been able to force myself to eat protein intsead of sugar when these extreme cravings happen. Before a single teaspoon of sugar of my cereal (which I NEVER did before Remeron) can be the flood gate for more sugar consumption. I've been on the Remeron for 2 years (60 lbs of extra weight) and have found the cravings for sugar to be overwhelming and no amount of self control could get it in line. This current diet of high protein, low carbs seems to have been the most help of other limited possibilities (getting my stomach stapled)(can't take any diet drugs when on AD's). It's still a struggle, but I've been able to stay on the diet for 6 days. That's the best I've done in over 10 years. I am on 200 mg Zoloft and have been taking it for about a year and a half. I have also had major sugar cravings, especially at first. I've always liked chocolate but I had intense cravings for sweet candy like Skittles and Starburst. I gained a lot of weight because I ate bags and bags of Starburst and Jelly Belly Sassy Sours! Prior to the Zoloft I craved carbohydrates. I ate a baked pototo for lunch and Betty Crocker hash browns for dinner! Reading I have done has shown the carb craving a common thing when your seratonin is screwed up. What we are going through certainly isn't uncommon but it isn't the best is it? Especially when you have a buy a new wardrobe because everything is too small.
