I recently withdrew from Effexor. 3 months ago was my last pill. I am now finding my orgasms less satisfing. I had no disfunction during the taking of the pill or before it and now I am extremely worried what this pill has done. Has anyone had or no someone who has had any such problems.
Answer:
I am just now going through the hell of Effexor withdrawal. After taking it for 4 years at 150 mg a day, I just couldn't deal with the constant fatigue, dizziness and weight gain anymore. After reading this news group, I realized that I was dealing with more side effects - I just didn't know that Effexor was the cause - decreased sex drive, sores in my mouth, constant indigestion..., etc. With the help of my doc and over a 2 month period, I gradually decreased my dosage from 150mg to 75mg to 37.5mg to 37.5mg every other day. I even went on the XR to help with the withdrawal. I took my last pill 3 days ago and feel like I am going to explode. I am angry, paranoid, irritable, extremely dizzy and as I have heard described by others, in a constant fog. Honestly, I don't know how much longer I will be able to endure this withdrawal but I don't want to depend on Effexor anymore b/c it's side effects are horrible. I haven't even been able to focus on my job since I stopped the medication, and I can't afford to lose my job. I've heard that taking Benadryl helps with the withdrawal effects but all it's done for me is make me sleep. Sleep seems to be the only way for me to get through this - and I can't sleep for 3 months?!! I am worried that I am going to have endure this for quite some time in order to get through it. Can anyone out there make any suggestions for alleviating this withdrawal hell? HAS ANYONE ever actually completely quit taking Effexor and successfully stayed off of it? DOES ANYONE have any suggestions? I was on Effexor for almost two years. I was very unhappy with the side effects. Went to a PDoc and he gave me a combination of Zoloft and Wellbutrin which seemed to work very well. No withdrawal. I understand why you want to be off of Effexor, but what is not clear is what you intend to do about the things which Effexor was probably helping you with....i.e. no A-D replacement? In my case, I had no doubt that the depression I had which led me to A-D's in the first place, was not going to go away on it's own and I had to address that in order to consider switching meds. It was very clear to me, after being on Zoloft for almost 2 years, prozac for almost two years, Effexor for almost two years and finally Zoloft & Wellutrin that there was some sort of chemical imbalance and it apparently had something to do with the seratonin levels in my brain as all the A-D's are SSRI's (Selective Seratonin Re-uptake Inhibitors). I started researching seratonin via the internet and learned a great deal. One of the most important things I learned was that there were very few people or drugs which addressed the opposing neurotransmitter, dopamine, which is generally inversely proportionate to seratonin...i.e. balancing the two. I also discovered that all the symptoms of the SSRI's such as weight gain, sweating, fatigue, etc. were controlled by dopamine levels.
