Up until a week ago I was taking 20 mg Prozac a day. It worked fine for a while but seemed to stop about 2 months ago. About a month ago I started having a problem with my right eye. It would suddenly start twitching/spasming. It was only the right eye and did it once or twice a day at first but eventually was happening 5 or 6 times an hour sometimes lasting 5 to 10 minutes at a time. I stopped taking the Prozac last Saturday and it stopped almost immediately. Is this a known side effect of Prozac? Has this happened to anyone else?
Answer:
I wouldn't know about it being specific to Prozac. I had an eye twitch in my right eye once that lasted for three solid months though, while I was on Paxil. Maybe it's just a nerves thing. I have the eye twitch problem - not only my right eye, though it is more often my right... my doctor didn't seem to think it was connected to the prozac and I haven't read anything in the abstracts specifically about the eye twitch. So far, the benefits of prozac outweigh the inconvenience ... hopefully won't get worse as I went to 40mg yesterday! I experienced the eye-twitching also, the first time I used Prozac, but it was temporary. I've been back on it for two months now, at 40mg., and it hasn't popped up. Isn't it great when the highly paid professional that is giving you the drug isn't aware of it's side effects?
