I caught a little of a news show the other night. They were discussing 5htp for treatment of depression and weight control. Has anyone had good results with this?

I did not see the program but heard about it from some friends. I am currently on a program which uses 5-HTP and Levadopa combined with Phenermine. I've been on the program since June 2. My weight at that time was 280. I am now 269. I stopped taking my anti-depressants the day I started this program. I was on 100mg Zoloft plus 300mg Wellbutrin. So far, I feel fine and tend to believe this just may be the way this whole thing should be approached. At first you use the 5-HTP (a precusor for Seratonin) and Levadopa (a presursor for Dopamine) in eye dropper form to establish the proper dosage and then switch to pill forms of the same, using the drops to make minor adjustments. My only complaint about this method is, as someone who tends to only notice the extremes in my own feelings, it takes a little while to learn the signals of an imbalanced Seratonin/Dopamine system and the know which precursor to use once you do. My AD med history...Have been on Zoloft, Prozac, Effexor, and Wellbutrin with varying success. All worked, in one way or another but I gained about 60 pounds over a period of about one year, the first year I was on Zoloft and seemed to loose a lot of energy which, until this program, I was unable to regain, despite the med used.
