Question:
I have been on Paxil for 2 weeks and I am still experiencing irritating side effects. Sometimes I feel like ever muscle in my body is so weak that I just can't even move. And at times I feel more anxious than I use to. I seem to be over the nausea but I still can't establish a good sleeping patern, or at least one that will allow me to go to sleep before 4am and wake before 3pm.

Answer:
I've been taking Paxil for close to 2 months now. I too had a lot of annoying side effects at first. The worst one was nausea... I also vomited a couple of times... Since I had nothing better to do (no job to go to, no activities...) I just waited to see if they would go away. And they did!!! It lasted a full month, but now I start to feel better about myself... the depression is slowly going away... Ask your doctor about the side effects and if you want to, try to last a full month. After that, if there is still some side effects that you can't live with, it will mean that Paxil is not for you. Like I said, ask your doctor... That's what I did when I didn't know what to do. The side effects usually go away within a couple of months, but not always. If you can't tolerate them you should just go on to another SSRI like Prozac, Zoloft or Luvox, even though their very similar, many times you don't get the same side effects and you might barely get any with the other. You can also try Effexor or Nefazodone. I was on Paxil for almost a year before my doctor put me on Luvox because he decided that Paxil was the cause of my horrible cases of hives. Luvox is actually working okay for me and (finally!) cutting my appetite, at least for the ten days I've been on it, but hasn't gotten rid of the hives, so I guess that's probably something else. Prozac might be in order--it worked fairly well for me, and I never noticed any side effects, other than problems with constipation that I was able to take care of by simply upping my water intake. Why did you end up in the hospital the second time you tried to go back on paxil ? And when you said " I never did have a good nights sleep " did you mean you could not sleep while your body was adjusting to being on the Paxil or even after you had been on it for a while you still could not sleep.
