Question:
I'm going to cut the 100 mg tabs in half and try that instead. It was kinda scary. I just wanted more Imovane (zopiclone) - THAT I liked. You feel great, you hit the pillow and you fall asleep, but the doc doesn't like using it long-term. But that trazodone is kind of strong...

Answer:
I was taking 50 mg before bedtime, and then my doctor decided to up the dosage to 200 mg because I was still having sleep trouble. I don't recall ever having anxiety or paranoia on it, at least not any more than I usually am. I never felt stoned or anything else while taking it - I usually didn't even *feel* drowsy. I mean, I fell asleep quicker, but it wasn't a feeling like you get when you've been up for 24 hours or so and can't keep your eyes open. Unfortunately, I had trouble waking up while on it. When you're in college and you have classes to go to, sleeping until 3 in the afternoon usually isn't the best way to help your GPA. So I quit taking it, and my boyfriend made me throw out every last pill once he learned that an overdose could kill me. If you don't have to physically force yourself out of bed in the morning after taking it, it's a pretty good drug. I can't say I have any experience in the erection department, but that's caused by being a female ;) It was extremely difficult to get up. I was so tired my eyes didn't want to open and getting my contact lenses in was so hard because of that. I was stoned all morning at work. I'm going to cut them in half - thanks for the reassurance about that. Interestingly, another poster said it didn't make her feel stoned. Maybe my reaction was a one-time thing, but as I said, it caused anxiety, which I haven't felt at all since I started on clonazepam, except that one time I had 3 tokes off a joint. Just looked at what it says on my bottle of Trazadone. They are 50mg and it says take 1 or 1/2 of pill at bedtime. I only use it as a sleep aid and it sure does work for that. Be it at 50mg or 25mg it made me feel real loopy and fuzzy and so sluggish the next day. I have found that a low dosage of Lorazapam, (.05mg) works well for me without all the icky side effects. I read somewhere that this used to be a common AD in its day, but made people feel so out of it that if they were benefiting from it they were to zoned out to realize it! It was only for sleep, not depression (I'm on Paxil and Wellbutrin for that, along with clonazepam for anxiety, and this combination is working just great). I've since followed my own hunch (verified by several people on the NG) and cut all the tablets in half, so I take 50 mg. I feel less stoned, sleep well enough, but it still gives me a dry mouth which woke me up at 7 this morning (I usually sleep till noon on Sundays) so I could have some juice. I went back to bed and didn't get up until 2 PM. I'm worried what's going to happen tomorrow when I have to go to work! But 100 mg was definitely too much for sleep purposes, and gave me SUCH a dry mouth I kept having to get out of bed to drink something, until finally I put a glass of water next to my bed. I think my doc just made a mistake, that's all. On the brighter side, now I have twice as many! ;-) Regarding depression, I don't think ANYONE really takes this drug for that reason. While it *is* technically an antidepressant, it's indicated for depression AND as a hypnotic sedative, and I think it's used more for the latter than for the former. Anyone who's taking trazodone regularly for depression is invited to share their comments & experiences!
