Question:
I have been taking Prozac and it has been working great. My prescription ran out. I cant afford the $600/monthly (not including medicine costs) that is needed in therapy for this prescription. Is there any other way without such costly therapy to get this medication? I have stopped taking it and have notice that my depression is coming back and starting to affect all parts of my life.

Answer:
There sure is...go to your general practitioner, tell 'em your prescription ran out, that you're doing fine on your current dosage, don't need any more therapy, but need to continue to get access to meds, and ask for a three- month supply at a time. I do all of the above with Paxil--which is my current medication--except get the three-month-supply-at-a-time, cuz I have crappy insurance that's too damn cheap to pay for anything over a one-month stretch. I had to fight with them for hours to get a 60-day supply when I was going to be moving. Damn HMO's. But they're another website, I'm sure. This is good advice and it has worked for me as well. My psychiatrist gives me as many sample packages as I need when money is scarce and I cannot pay for my regular script. She told me the drug companies hand out free meds with their sales pitch as a way of promoting their product. Since it doesn't cost her anything, she has nothing to lose. I am lucky enough to have a very caring doctor. Once, when I was out of Paxil, out of money and she had run out of samples, she had the pharmacy bill the prescription to her account and paid for it herself. How is that for dedication!
