I've been taking Prozac for a week now and have just taken myself off of it. At first it made me edgy, then add to that growing insomnia. It got worse everyday. Last night I slept 3 hours. And my depression and obsessional thoughts are coming back pretty good now.
Answer:
SSRIs do react differently for people. Prozac (after only 6 days) did not work for me, but Zoloft does the trick. It takes time to get past some of the medications reactions. You may have to take a certain medication for 4-6 weeks before finding out if it works for you, however, if the side effects are severe call your Doctor to see if that is normal. Ask your doctor for some trazadone, 25-100mg range depending on the person. It has worked well for my wife and I when we needed a "sleeping pill" (actually an antidepressive with a sedative effect, now used primarily as a sleeping pill). My wife and I have come to the conclusion that it's a trial and error process; much more than a scientific process. And yes, different people have very different reactions to different antidepressants and even different dosages. I had to go with Paxil with a nortriptyline enhancer. Hope this helps. If you want more info, ask away. My wife and I know much more about psychoactive drugs than we ever wanted to. But we both are at functioning levels now. I've been on 2 SSRIs. Neither one did anything for me (except a little nausea, which doesn't really count).
