After having no luck with paxil viz. generalized anxiety, my doc switched me to Luvox 50mg & then after a few days 100m. He said to take Xanax as needed for the anxiety. When I researched Luvox on www.rxlist.com, it warned about an interaction with alprazolam. Has anyone taken these two drugs together? I would appreciate hearing your opinion of the safety of this combination, and its effectiveness, etc.

I took Luvox and Xanax together..... had no reaction whatsoever.....and *I* am usually the one on the pharmaceutical inserts that makes up a portion of that *2* percent who have strange side effects, reactions, etc..... YMMV and all that.....but, for me, it was no problem.... I am sorry not to be able to give you more info but this sure surprises me. An SSRI and a benzo always seems to be a good combo. I would phone your doctor if I were you and, maybe even more imprtant, your pharmacy. Here in the Netherlands, my pharmacy has the meds I take on computer. As soon as I have a prescription for anything that might potentiate with a med I'm taking, the computer says so loud and clear. Sometimes pharmacists are better informed about these things than pdocs are, although I must say I find this hard to believe but would take it *very* seriously if it happened to me. After reading the Luvox literature, my interpretation is that combining Luvox and Xanax would not effect the Luvox metabolism, but might slow the Xanax metabolism, so that you might need to adjust your Xanax dosage lower. So the only adverse effect you might experience would be similar to taking too much Xanax. Wish I could charge $50 for that. Luvox and Xanax work together nicely. Like any SSRI Luvox can inhibit the metabolism of Xanax, and may actually double the serum concentration of the Xanax. Still, I increasingly favor Luvox when I need a SSRI stonger than Prozac.
