What medications do other people use to counteract insomnia? I like effexor as an antidepressant but would rather not become addicted to benzodiazepines to sleep.

i'm on 375 mg daily, and with a small buspar (buspirone) dose, i'm just fine with sleep. my only side effects have been with excessive sweating and, um, "other" dysfunction. and i don't think it's necessarily the buspar that's helping sleep, since i was taking the regular effexor with the same dose and still had no sleep problems as an effect. the big side effects, though, are insomnia and problems with, well, "you-know-what", so you're not out of the ordinary. instead of a diazepam, though, you might want to ask for something milder first, if you're anxious about dependence. My wife and I have used trazadone from 25mg to 150mg. It is pretty useless as an anti-depressant, but it makes a wonderful sleeping pill-virtually no side effects.
