Question:
I was then switched to Celexa. First 20 mg, then 40, and then up to 60 when I couldn't shake my mood. He added Xanax also. During today's visit I told him that I still felt like crap...still had no libido, and generally felt worthless. He referred me to a psychiatrist, since he was afraid of messing with these medications. He dropped me back down to 40mg of Celexa. I see the Pdoc tomorrow, and I'm scared to death. What if he takes me off of all meds???

Answer:
Let me try and put your mind at rest. No psychiatrist will take you off medication when it's needed. In fact medication is a big part of a psychiatrist's method of treatment, and has more expertise is selecting the right meds for a given condition. As far as your other concerns,if they come up, you may want to be upfront and tell him/her and say you don't want to bring up the past. Likely it will be a brief visit and it will go better than you expect. Keep in mind they are there to help make you feel better, not worse. :) don't be scared! you don't have to rush into any decisions about your mental health. just stay with us! give the new doc a try if you don't like what is recomended don't go back! after all we are all just human beings with knowledge in all different aspects of life. maybe you'll like it! if not try and try again. My doctor suggested I see a psychatrist once, but I guess my reaction was so negative he hasn't tried again. But he might since things don't seem to be working out. Your pdoc won't take you off all meds. If he does it will only be to change you onto something else. He may wish to discuss some stuff with you, but from what I heard they usually just stick to medications. I know of your fear cause I have the same one. Somehow going to a pdoc, just seems to serious. But he can help you a lot. Your doctor is obviously a good doctor who cares enough about you that he is willing to lose some business if it means that you will get better. He knows enough to know that he doesn't know enough and he is willing to admit it. That's a rare doctor, don't you think?
