I was prescribed Prozac ten days ago, for depression and OCD, 20mg a day. At first, I mostly noticed increased nervosity, I could cope with that. But since a few days, I have been feeling alternatively high and very very down, and with all the side effects mentionned in the header: panic, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and paranoia. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this when being put on Prozac. I'm quite scared and can't reach my psychiatrist before a few days (he's on holidays...)

Some people have a paradoxical reaction to Prozac with symptoms such as the ones you're having, including suicidal or homicidal ruminations (or attempts), anxiety, obsessive thoughts, etc. If you can't see your psychiatrist, see or call another one _right away_. I believe that any knowledgable, responsible doctor will declare that Prozac and you are a mismatch, immediately take you off it, and either switch you to an alternative therapy or, maybe, try resuming the P at a much, much lower dosage after a washout period. people can get worse on Prozac--you should talk to some doctor now. Prozac stays in your body a while, so there should be little withdrawal, if you stop using. When I first used Prozac, it was pure euphoria, the from 10 mg to 20 to 40 to 60 to 80 mg, and I felt like an embalmed person--a "dead man walking." Horrible nightmares and stuff. Get some help asap. Good luck. Tom P.S., there are a lot of good ADs out there. These docs don't know what will work with a particular person. A lot is trial and error. Believe me, I'm on my 8th different AD.
