My doctor just switched me from Serzone -- which did absolutely nothing for me, good or bad -- to Effexor. Even after just two days of Effexor, I can't reach orgasm and I'm having increased problems with anxiety (which was my original complaint) and paranoia. Are these reactions normal at this stage of therapy with this drug, or is this an indication that this particular drug is not for me?
Answer:
I'm on effexor since two weeks - 2 times 37.5 - From day one I experienced a _very_ weird drowsiness and an extreme agitation - I was walking on the streets like a wild madman, and my typing velocity was increased _enormously_ It was as if my arms and legs were ahead of me all the time. The drowsiness was due to that - I could _see_ my arms and legs were ahead of me, but I didn't experienced that as such. The same with my head - if I moved it, I could check with my eyes were it was, but appearantly, my propriocepsis was sort of behind. After a rather troublesome week, I cut my dose in half, only taking 1 time 37.5 a day. After three days the weird effects disappeared. After five days, I increased the dose to 1 1/2 times 37.5 - and didnt experience any weird effects. Now I'm on the full (2 time 37.5) dose again, without any trouble at all. My doctor started the dose at 37.5 mg (Effexor) for the first 3 days. I was able to get used to the drug without extreme effects. Going slow at first seems to be best from my experience as well.
