Need some information about the effectiveness of effexor when used for an extended period of time, such as 2 years plus. Does it lose any of it's effectiveness? Do you need to increase/decrease the dose? Any other facts regarding it's use would be helful.
Answer:
I was on Ef(f)exor/venlafaxine for 2 years, at the recommended maximum dose of 375mg a day (I know people who have been on higher doses though). I came off it not because it stopped working, but because I stopped *improving* while on it and although it worked, I want more! The fact that I couldn't manage to lose the weight I gained last winter (I suffer from SAD as well as clinical depression) was another factor. I'm now on Prozac/fluoxetine, and so far (six weeks) the Efexor worked better for me (more depression and anxiety now). It's still early days though.
