I have just been to my MD to evaluate how the last 6 weeks of 50mg Zoloft treatment were working out. Although it gave me a "high" in the morning, I usually got suicidal around 2 pm and stayed that way.

Well at least he recognized that you were having genuine problems and took action. As I have said before, I am not a doctor, BUT, it is very common for anti depressants to become adjusted to your system and cause a need for a dosage increase. EVERY single on I have taken has done the same thing to me. I believe it is referred to as "losing it's efficacy." I took Zoloft and got to the maximum recommended dosage and had to switch also. As far as Depakote is concerned, or Sodium Valproate, it is an anti-manic mood stabilizer that should help you with those swings from up to down and vice versa. Not knowing your history OR being a PDoc, I don't feel qualified in advising you, but there are plenty of places on the web to find info on Depakote. Use a search engine and you should get hits galore. A personal tip based on MY EXPERIENCE. Drink plenty of water. Becasue of the sodium in the drug, I MYSELF tend to get swollen if I don't exercise and drink plenty of fluids to keep things moving. Your case may be different, but the majority of complaints I hear about Dapakote is weight gain. In my case, I had to fight back by doing one of the things I hate to do the most.
