I have just started taking Prozac and I am curious if anyone knows anything about interactions between Prozac and Marijuana. If anyone could help, I would be most appreciative.
Answer:
i don't know anything about interactions, but mixing an antidepressant with a illicit drug that causes depression can't be all that good I never heard that marijuana caused depression. Is that just your guess or is there published material on this? I have never heard of depression being reported by users as an effect of marijuana. I've known a lot of marijuana users, not one has mentioned such an effect. I *have* heard of it being used to combat the symptoms of depression. Of course, I realize that other drugs are also used to self medicate for depression (alcohol, for example), and "work" in the short term while making the depression worse in the long term. I just haven't heard of marijuana causing depression in the short or long term. I too would be interested if there is any real research on this topic. One thing to bear in mind is that marijuana is that because it's a plant, it contains many different drugs, any of which could interact with Prozac. However, of the antidepressants, Prozac is safer than most when used in combination with other drugs. The best-understood component of marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, has an adrenergic blocking effect but no effect on serotonin (Prozac inhibits the reuptake of serotonin at the neuronal membrane). just smoke the green bud, if it works for you. if it doesn't, don't. simple as that. as to people posting to this thread that mj is an 'illicit drug,' you are just plain stupid. i'd rather have somebody driving down the freeway after five bong hits than after five beers/shots. think about and get back to me.
