Question:
Is this interference between antidepressants and fat know by scientists/researchers? Has my hope that my depression disappears by quitting the low fat diet any ground?

Answer:
How long were you on the low fat diet each time, and how low was it? I know I did a really low fat diet for a couple of weeks and I thought I was gonna DIE! The first few days are the worst, because in a sense your body is having to go from gas to methanol -- instead of having the instant energy that high fat provides to the bloodstream, it's having to go back to the fat stores in your body, which is a whole different chemical process. I think a lot of it also has to do with the actual content of the low fat diet -- if lowfat means few or no veggies and fruits, and simply munchin on a whole mess of cardboard diet snacks, you're going to have problems anyway. Since fatty and high carb (sugary) foods are both known to have a mellowing effect on emotion, I guess I would be looking at what I'm eating right now to determine the level of both. It may not be what seems a high level according to someone else, but it may be something that your body is very used to, has come to expect, and freaks when it's no longer present in your diet. Doesn't take much to trigger those chemical imbalances, after all. Some posit that much depression is attributable to poor diet and insufficient nutrients. I'm not sure how far I would take that, but a *balanced* diet -- low fat or not -- is key to feeling good, as well as excercise that you can handle, be it a little or a lot. I never really realized how much of my depressions were attributable to this until I started taking care of my body. The depressions were still there, but I felt healthier and a little more in control of my life knowing that I could at least take care of my basic physical needs in a healthy way. You obviously want to make some changes toward a healthier diet; great! I say take it slowly, find out what's right for you, do a little research on nutrition to find out what your body's needs actually are, and go from there. And STAY AWAY from diet fads! These celebrity diets and whatnot that I've seen are, in large part, not something I would ever subject my body to again, knowing what I know now about good eating. I have also heard that a higher fat diet results in more mental happyness. But you have to watch out for the cholesterol. I have also noticed that spices especially MUSTARD , and vinegar lead to manic depressive behavior and explosive disorders. Compare two cultures India and U.S..Movies usually reflect current cultures. The U.S. movies are mainly action/violence.The Indian movies are more meaningful but very sad,and with explosive disorders. I think a lot of meat consumption in the U.S.leads to less clear thinking and more agreesive behavior(Dumb Jock).I think the spice consumption in the middle east leads more to manic depression(Suicidal Terrorist). In Guam there are theories of long term poison consumption from cycad bread, leading to mental disorders at old age.
