It shouldn't be a problem. Wellbutrin is routinely prescribed along with SSRIs, because it affects norepinephrine and dopamine, not serotonin. If your doctor is prescribing these medications, he should know this, so I'm a bit concerned about his level of expertise. Some notes from the Wellbutrin prescribing information: "Bupropion is a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, and does not inhibit monoamine oxidase or the re-uptake of serotonin." Doctors work from the Physicians Desk Reference, which is a compendium of prescribing information, of the sort that I posted. Psychiatrists also routinely prescribe Wellbutrin along with SSRIs, such as Prozac and Lexapro, both to augment the antidepressant effects, and to address sexual dysfunction that is often caused by SSRIs. Finally, I have taken Wellbutrin + Prozac and Wellbutrin + Effexor, with no problems. So while no one can guarantee that any drug or drug combination is absolutely safe for anyone, I don't think you can ask for more in the way of safety evidence for Wellbutrin + Lexapro.
