I am currently taking Zoloft for depression. It is working very well for the most part but it has eliminated my sex drive totally! Is anyone else on Zoloft? What experiences have you had with it? Are there any AD's out there that don't eliminate your sex drive?
Answer:
I have been taking Z since the first of December. I am a female and my sex drive has not changed. Perhaps I am an exception, but I was able to experience multiple orgasms before and still do on a regular basis. I do need to explain that I am in a fairly new relationship (8 months now) and I am approaching 50 and mennopause. I have also not had any adverse side effects. The quality of my life has been much better since the medication. I am able to reccognize my panic attacks and learn how to compensate. My insurance does not cover Zoloft, so the first time I picked up my monthly medication, it was $78!!! Yikes. The doctor spoke to the insurance company and they finally approved my medication. I'm on Zoloft for the 2nd time. About 1-1/2 yrs ago, took for about 3 months and weaned myself off. Didn't want the stigma of taking it.... By December of last year, was thinking about how to kill myself just about all day long. Went back on Zoloft. I'm still on it at 100 mg now and afraid to go further. It worked really well until February, but I feel an "edge" of depression trying to creep in. I'm afraid if I increase doseage, it'll continue, so on one hand, I have no loss of desire at all, but then I'm extremely highly sexed. The only negative I've found is occasional headaches but otherwise none after the first two-three weeks. It did help me a great deal for about 3 months. So on the other hand, was wondering if someone could offer *me* advice on which way I should go. Again, done well on Zoloft, should I increase, try something else or what? are you seeing a Pdoc? Why are you making these desitions alone? I am on Zoloft was on 50, then 100, then 150, and have just started 200 mg a day. It is working great. But the doctor was the one to give me the advice and then I made up my mind what I thought I should do. There is no shame in being on a medication. Would you not take your insulin if you were a dibetic? I will be on meds for most if not all of my life, but thats ok, because I have a disorder and it can be controled.
