For about a month I took Effexor 450 mg and SJW 1800 mg. Then I increased the SJW to 2700 mg. A few days later I had a frightening reaction in which I grew weak, very tired, jittery and sweaty. That night, briefly, I had a temperature of 100.8 degrees F. BP was about 140/90 and pulse 90, both fairly "normal" for me (I'm 55.)

2700mg of SJW while taking another anti-depressants? Wow! The label of the my bottle of SJW recommends no more than 300mg a day although I've received e-mails that said I could go as high as 600-900mg a day. A side note- Instead of slowing acclimating my body to the medication, I began with 300mg of SJW and then missed a few dosages and plunged into a severe depression. For two days I couldn't get out of bed. I stopped taking it. I'm currently slowly increasing the dose. Another side note- I've taken high dosages of effexor previously and did experience addiction/withdrawal although I was able to get off of it in two months. I have read in most places that the recommended dosage of SJW is 900 mg a day but you can go as high as 1800 mg a day. I think 2700 mg a day is way out of wack!!! I personally am only able to handle 900 mg a day but it works for the most part for me..
